What I’m writing: Yesterday’s Two Crappy Pages involved some work on a draft of a story about how to do product development in the insurance industry in Latin America.

Really bad things continue to exist when individuals can’t get their shit together and act as a group to do what’s right. For example, this is the case with social media. If we could all decide together to just leave, no one would have that fear of missing out that keeps them from acting individually, and we’d all be better off.

This is also true with the Catholic Church. It continues to exist because the rank-and-file Catholic still not only sits in the pew but stupidly gives money when the plate is passed, tithes not going to the furtherance of God’s kingdom but for paying legal bills and settlements caused by pedophiles in the hierarchy.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles recently agreed to pay $880 million to victims of clergy sexual abuse, an amount that gets Scrooge McDucked on top of the $740 million they had already paid. That’s $1.5 billion, my friends, and that comes from the pockets of all of you dolts who still give them money.

I’m pretty sure when the whole concept of tithing for religious reasons came about, it wasn’t to cover the wrongdoings of kid-diddlers. You can say all you want that your money isn’t going to support that, but it is. That the church had $1.5 billion in investments and other assets to pay this huge penalty should be a warning sign to you that your tithes aren’t going to further squat to do with God. It’s going to line old white men’s pockets, and too often those pockets are part of pants dropped to their ankles in front of little children.

So I have to ask the rank-and-file Catholic… what in the actual fuck are you doing? Why in the holy name of the God you profess to believe in do you continue to support with your time, presence and dollars such a corrupt institution? How do you sleep at night knowing what you are handing over from your hard work is going to pay legal bills and penalties caused by supposedly holy people who molest children? How do you not see this situation as exactly that? Where is your shame?

I heard in a recent podcast that the one way to stop all this is to not go and not give for two weeks. The first week, the Catholic patriarchy would raise an eyebrow. The second week, it would realize it has a serious issue.

That you all can’t get your shit together to do exactly that is an astounding example of stupidity.
