Something I’m looking forward to today: Well, it’s late in the day, but I’ll be grilling chicken breasts for fajitas later, and grilling is always something to look forward to.

Something I’m looking forward to in the next seven days: Wifey Poo joins me in the 50 club tomorrow.

Something I’m grateful for from yesterday: Being non-contagious and, though I still felt pretty shitty, seeing Boy The Younger play basketball again.

What I’m writing: Today’s two crappy pages involved re-writing a story for a Johnny Boy Marketing client because they wanted a different angle on this story about compliance with Medicare and Medicaid laws. Yes, it’s that exciting.

What I’ve written: What Type of Bosses Do Employees Leave?

Not many people give a crap about what I write. I wish it were different. As I’ve (ironically) written about before, writing to me is an act of creation. To have so few people give a crap about what I write is like bringing my new baby to a family party and having everyone say, “Yeah, but have you brought anything … interesting?” But that’s the fate for most everything I write.

It wasn’t that way for my aunt.

Aunt Ne (pronounced “knee,” short for “Nanette,” which I evidently couldn’t master as a toddler) died a month ago, and I still am feeling the loss pretty heavily. One of the things I miss most is how much she enjoyed reading my writing. These (almost) daily missives were can’t-miss material for her. And when I wrote a new book or short story, she always volunteered to edit it. I have several near-publication-ready things because of her effort and editorial eye.

The other day, I finished writing something, and my first thought was, “I need to send this to Ne.” Yeah, ouch.

I often joke on here about my regular readers (hey you three). Except it’s not three anymore. It’s two.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it really make a sound? If a writer writes his heart out and no one is there to read it, did he really even write?
