THE DAILY UPDATE

Three Things I’m Grateful For Today:

  1. A good time out with my sons yesterday.
  2. A good night’s sleep, finally.
  3. No sounds in the house except for falling rain.

Pursuit of Wordle Godhood: Today’s result: Five. This one is ingrained on my brain.

The song in my head when I woke up: “Someone You Loved,” by Lewis Capaldi. Ouch.

Favorite line from the song in my head when I woke up:  Now the day bleeds/Into nightfall/And you’re not here/To get me through it all

Suit Tunes: The drive to and from St. Louis yesterday to pick up our wedding suits was done to some great 1970s rock.

  • Go Your Own Way, Fleetwood Mac
  • Walk This Way, Aerosmith
  • Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love, Van Halen
  • I Want You To Want Me, Cheap Trick
  • Baba O’Riley, The Who
  • The Chain, Fleetwood Mac
  • Heartbreaker, Pat Benatar
  • Cherry Bomb, The Runaways
  • A Horse With No Name, America
  • Brown Sugar, The Rolling Stones
  • Somebody To Love, Queen
  • Live and Let Die, Paul McCartney And Wings
  • Ballroom Blitz, The Sweet

Something I’m looking forward to today: The Indy 500 — if it doesn’t get rained out.

Something I’m looking forward to in the next seven days: Boy The Elder’s wedding is a week from today!

Something I’m grateful for from yesterday: Being with my sons to pick up our suits for the wedding.

What I’m writing: Yesterday’s Two Crappy Pages involved writing a story for a Johnny Boy Marketing client about a guy who is a biotech entrepreneur and runs a company producing a pneumococcal vaccine.

What I’ve written: From my That Marketing Guy blog, Why So Much Marketing Data Analysis Is Wrong.

The Brotherhood of the Chicken Wing was born many moons ago because both my sons love chicken wings. A visit to Buffalo Wild Wings made either of their days, and when all three of us went, it was a truly special moment.

So I formalized it and called it The Brotherhood of the Chicken Wing, which included a chicken-wing toast every time we went.

Yesterday, after picking up the suits we will wear to Boy The Elder’s wedding a week from today, we did some grocery shopping and then had the last official meeting of the BotCW with BTE as a single man. It was a good time, downing a combined 31 wings while watching sports. I still contend the “wings” my sons prefer — boneless — are glorified chicken nuggies, but the Brotherhood is able to see through those differences to enjoy the time anyway.

We are now one week away from the wedding, and I think the reality that this is about to happen has hit each and every one of us strong. This is an amazing time in our lives.
