THE DAILY UPDATE

Three Things I’m Grateful For Today:

  1. Making it to the semifinals of our baseball tournament over the weekend. There was a vast improvement from our first tournament.
  2. Having just two emails when I arrived at work this morning, and none from the recently departed crazy woman.
  3. My future daughter-in-law.

The song in my head when I woke up: Someone Like You,” by Adele

Favorite line from the song in my head when I woke up: Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead

Commute Tunes: The morning commute was mostly to Last Podcast On The Left’s new episode on JonBenet Ramsey. There was time for a few songs from John’s Ultimate Chill Song Compendium:

Something I’m looking forward to today: Baseball practice with my team tonight.

Something I’m looking forward to in the next seven days: Our new washing machine being delivered tomorrow so we can start washing the mountain of clothes.

Something I’m grateful for from yesterday: The great things that I heard were said about my future daughter-in-law at her bridal shower yesterday. She deserves to hear those things.

What I’m writing: Yesterday’s Two Crappy Pages involved not writing anything because I was at the baseball field all day and was tired when I got home.

What I’ve written: The Time God Burned Up His Son — And They Rebuilt It

Today’s Stoic Though of the Day: “All the things which cause complaint or dread are like the taxes of life.” — Seneca

John’s translation of Today’s STD: “So today is tax day, and yeah, you can complaint about how much the gubment takes from your check. But that, in and of itself, is another tax … on your happiness. Sure it sucks to have to pay money to fund a gubment so corrupt and broken. But you could, say, live in a place with an even worse fucked-up government and be paying taxes through the effort it takes just to survive. Everything comes with a tax. The best relationships have disagreements. Waiting is a tax on your time. So just shut the fuck up, pay your taxes and focus on the things that make life good. ”

Yesterday was a big day in the life of the Core Four/Soon-To-Be Fab Five. Yes, Boy The Younger and I had the second day of a baseball tournament, and we were assisted in the dugout by Boy The Elder, who served as an assistant coach. But Wifey Poo and The Fiddle (future daughter-in-law) spent much of the afternoon at the latter’s bridal shower, organized mainly by my two sisters-in-law.

From what I heard, it was a great time and a great celebration of a great young woman. We are now about six weeks away from welcoming her officially into our family, but truthfully, at this point, that’s a mere formality. She’s been one of us for a while now.
