The Shirt-Jack is Back! – Sept. 21, 2021

I spent the morning in my office at work ensconced in my gray shirt-jack. If you don’t know what a shirt-jack is, that’s OK. I didn’t either until I found it on Amazon a few years ago while searching for something that wasn’t quite a sweatshirt but not quite a jacket to wear around the office when I was cold. Ever since then, it’s become a go-to comfort item. The shirt-jack has been some places and seen some shit, let me tell you. When I saw today’s temperatures wouldn’t touch 70 and it would be rainy and cloudy, I went to the closet and pulled out my familiar friend. Ahhhh.

Pops Turns … 80?

Pops was born months before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Today he turns 80. I think I’m struggling with this whole getting-older thing. Pops is how old I remember my grandpa being when I was a kid. I’m now as old as Pops was when he was doing Really Big Things in his career. Sometimes it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how this has happened.

What’s Your Bean Intake Level?

Marketing folks have a language all their own. Today I was in an online event (I’ll never willingly say the word “webinar”), and the featured speaker was a marketing person from Empower, an agency. One of its accounts is Bush’s Baked Beans. Did you know? A fast-growing segment among bean purchases are those who do so online? Anywho, it was awesome to hear the phrases “heavy bean user” and “lapsed bean user” bandied about as if we were talking about the weather.

I don’t consider myself either, by the way. Boy The Younger? He’s definitely the former.

The ‘Don’t Blame Me, I Didn’t Say It’ of the Day

‘What influence, if any, do (his parents) have over him? He decides to go backpacking and they couldn’t stop him?’

Cheryl Dorsey, retired Los Angeles police sergeant, who for some reason was asked to share her opinion on cnn about the search for really weird dude and possible killer Brian Laundrie

Ms. Dorsey is obviously not a parent. Have you tried getting a toddler to sit still, let alone a grown-ass man?

Famous musicians I’d like to hang out with and talk to and ask meaningful questions:

  1. Eddie Vedder
  2. James Hetfield (I’ve always wanted to ask him about the religious references so common in Metallica songs)
  3. Tracy Chapman
  4. Slash
  5. Jewel

Now that’s an eclectic bunch, isn’t it?

Today’s Reasons to Keep Living

  1. The next few days are supposed to feel a bit fall-ish, and I’m a fall-ish kinda guy.
  2. I just launched a bunch of social media ads at work that I’m hoping will do big things. Gotta stick around to see the metrics.
  3. It’s yoga night. I love my restorative yoga/yoga nidra world.

Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021

I’ll Drink to That Since my departure from newspapers in 2009, I’ve worked for very conservative not-for-profit organizations. An electric cooperative. A Lutheran benefits provider. A pediatric orthopedic hospital. None ever encouraged me to post photos on our social media of employees drinking during the workday. But that happened to me today following our champagne-tastingContinue reading “Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021”
