QAnon Crap – Aug. 19, 2021

Wakey Wakey

My day started off with a bag-full of my blood being drained, filled with ozone and then dripped back into my while I listened to a cancer patient banter about QAnon insanity as if it were gospel with the nurse in charge of my treatment. How was your morning?

So Long, Sonny

Boy the Elder left today for his sophomore year at Mizzou. Much less emotion than last year. The kid acquitted himself well last year and went about renting his sophomore year accommodations with his buddies without any fatherly interventions. I don’t worry about much with that boy. He’ll be fine.

The Boys of … Fall?

Boy the Younger had a tryout of sorts for his new baseball team today. Fall ballgames begin in a few weeks. He left his last team following the spring season because, after several years with mostly the same kids and the same coach, an overwhelming majority of the team couldn’t catch a routine pop-up with anything close to regularity. The team was mercy-ruled in every game except its final one, which they somehow found a way to win. That winning percentage is still less than a stopped clock at the end of a day.

The ‘Don’t Blame Me, I Didn’t Say It’ of the Day

‘Since Biden got elected he’s just been like, man … he doesn’t like change, I reckon.’

Christopher Roseberry, son of Trumpeteer FLoyd Roseberry, who threatened to blow up the Capitol today

Yeah, I reckon.

I also reckon I’m grateful the worst thing my dad has done to embarrass me in the past 20 years is send out a Christmas card with a professionally taken photo of their dog draped in Christmas lights on the front.

Thanks, Pops.

Vive Le Difference

At my last job, we all dealt with Shrine Time. This euphemism for “irresponsible inefficiency” stands in stark contrast to the environment I find myself in now, where we agreed upon when and where we would hold our next client event, what the theme would be and who would be responsible for leading the planning efforts in — no joke — four-and-a-half minutes. As Annie sang, I think I’m gonna like it here.

Today’s Reason to Keep Living

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. After all the work we’ve put into getting our old house ready to put on the market, we finish the last sweep Sunday and it’ll be ready to sell on Monday! We’re hopeful to have offers in next Sunday night and accept one next Monday morning. That’s the plan, anyway. Stay tuned.

FIL’s Day — Sept. 19, 2021

Today was all about my father-in-law, Marvin. FIL died in November following complications from heart surgery and COVID. Wifey Poo and the sisters-in-law organized an ice cream social and issued an open invitation to the family and FIL’s friends. When we set the date for late September, the thought was that we’d be past theContinue reading “FIL’s Day — Sept. 19, 2021”

Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021

I’ll Drink to That Since my departure from newspapers in 2009, I’ve worked for very conservative not-for-profit organizations. An electric cooperative. A Lutheran benefits provider. A pediatric orthopedic hospital. None ever encouraged me to post photos on our social media of employees drinking during the workday. But that happened to me today following our champagne-tastingContinue reading “Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021”

Moving Day – Aug. 13, 2021

Moving Is Fun … … when someone else does it. At just before 9 a.m., movers from Two Men and a Truck arrived at our Wentzville house. There were four men.
