Moving Day – Aug. 13, 2021

Moving Is Fun …

… when someone else does it.

At just before 9 a.m., movers from Two Men and a Truck arrived at our Wentzville house. There were four men.

Within three hours, they’d loaded up all the crap we had boxed and the furniture and other assorted LifeJunk we’ve accumulated through the years. Tonight will be our first night livin’ in the country. I’m looking forward to hearing night sounds and seeing more stars.

Running is Not Fun

Boy the Younger is not a happy camper. We signed him up for cross country for his physical education in seventh grade of the Agliata Homeschool Academy (TM). BTY has run everywhere since he was old enough to be bipedal. But now that we’re telling him he has to run, we’re suddenly parents on par with Fred and Rosemary West.

Quotable

‘I’m sick of following my dreams, man. I’m just going to ask where they’re going and hook up with ’em later.’

Mitch Hedberg

UFC or Baseball?

Two women got in a fight last night in the concession area at the Atlanta Braves game. A fight at a baseball game is not news. They happen all the time. But this fight?

If I’m not mistaken, one of the women very nearly puts the other in a triangle chokehold. Which made me think about how proud I would be of my wife if she got in a fight at a baseball game and used a triangle chokehold on her adversary.

That’s the stuff dreams are made of,

Speaking of Baseball …

Don’t talk to me about the ending of the Field of Dreams game last night. I’m still a bit salty.

Can someone explain to me while Zach Britton is the Yankees fill-in closer and not Jonathan Loaisiga?

Longhaul COVID Sucks, Part 819,916

Because I don’t write about Longhaul COVID enough…

This morning sucked. I got up, loaded random crap into my car before the movers got here and then was helping the rest of the family when they finally awoke. That’s when I started getting chest/stomach cramps and sweating like a sexually promiscuous person in a religious establishment that doesn’t condone sexual promiscuity. It took about an hour of sitting and doing nothing before I was convinced I wasn’t havin’ the big one.

Today’s Reason to Keep Living

Nature sounds. Man, sitting outside at night when you live in the country is nice.

FIL’s Day — Sept. 19, 2021

Today was all about my father-in-law, Marvin. FIL died in November following complications from heart surgery and COVID. Wifey Poo and the sisters-in-law organized an ice cream social and issued an open invitation to the family and FIL’s friends. When we set the date for late September, the thought was that we’d be past theContinue reading “FIL’s Day — Sept. 19, 2021”

Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021

I’ll Drink to That Since my departure from newspapers in 2009, I’ve worked for very conservative not-for-profit organizations. An electric cooperative. A Lutheran benefits provider. A pediatric orthopedic hospital. None ever encouraged me to post photos on our social media of employees drinking during the workday. But that happened to me today following our champagne-tastingContinue reading “Work Drinkin’ – Sept. 3, 2021”
